Upper Nazareth Township is a township in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Upper Nazareth Township is located in the Lehigh Valley region of the state.
The population of Upper Nazareth Township was 4,426 at the 2000 census.
The township spans from the western broder of Stockertown Borough, Wraps most of the way around Nazareth Borough and Continues westward toward the Bourough of Bath. Being a long and somewhat randomly placed township, Upper Nazareth tends to have a much lower level of identity from the boroughs that it surrounds; in comparison to other Townships in the Area.
Most of the Townships population is centered in the part of the township that lies northeast of Nazareth, an area and census designated place commonly referred to as East Lawn, or East Lawn Gardens. Route 191 runs through this area and is home to many successful businesses. Also in the Township is the Village of Schoenick, which lies to the north of Nazareth Borough and the Nazareth Borough Park. The Upper Nazareth Township tax collector is Amy Sevi Stoudt.
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 4,426 people, 1,327 households, and 1,044 families residing in the township. The population density was 233.1/km² (603.9/mi²). There were 1,364 housing units at an average density of 71.8/km² (186.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.99% White, 0.61% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.50% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.47% of the population.
There were 1,327 households out of which 38.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.0% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% were non-families. 16.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the township the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 29.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 81.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.9 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $55,291, and the median income for a family was $61,298. Males had a median income of $42,102 versus $26,161 for females. The per capita income for the township was $21,300. About 0.7% of families and 1.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.6% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
The Township is served by the Nazareth Area School District.
